This code implements remote magtape over DECnet. The implementation allows
you to make tapes physically connected somewhere else on your net appear
local so you can run backups etc. over DECnet. Speed is quite
good, provided you edit so that TRACE is defined as 0 (otherwise it
generates large log files which slow it down). The remote tape is
accessed exactly like local tape. Works on VAX or Alpha and tape
can be accessed on one while physically on the other in a mixed
network.

A new (beta-test) version my ZT_DRIVER software (virtual tape, "remotetape")
is available via anonymous FTP from:

	ftp.gwdg.de:pub/vms/zt_022_beta.*_of_5

It's labelled "beta" because after a long time I changed
the ZT_DRIVER proper, and can't be sure that it works on just
every VMS system - feedback please! (+)

New features:
	- Multiple ZT units (optionally 0..99)
	- some support for IO$_DISPLAY (mostly "latent")
	- support for DECC compiler on VAX
	- "pro forma" support of XA on VAX VMS V6

Supposedly the interface between ZT components remains
unchanged (as ever, I think).

BTW, the ZT1 and ZT2 programs have already for some time
taken the name of the pseudo-tape to be "served" as an
(optional) command line argument; you have to make use
of this in order to drive multiple units.

Sorry, there's still no documentation included ...

(+) I have built and tested the current ZT version on
    VAX VMS V5.4-2, 5.5-2, 6.1 (w/o "XA") and AXP VMS V6.1.
ZT _should_ also work on other VAX VMS versions from V4
onward, and on AXP VMS V1.5 (no idea about V1.0).
If you can build & test ZT on one of the latter,
    please let me know!

Enjoy,
