Encompass and Compaq have partnered to create the Local Partnership Program (LPP) to bring technical sessions to cities around the U.S.
ESILUG is pleased to host the LPP event for the Washington DC area, coinciding with the July ESILUG meeting. This will be an all-day event, running from 10am to 4pm. Lunch will be provided.
The list of sessions follows. Further information will be posted here as it becomes available.
- John Loether of Compaq will discuss Compaq's June 25 Alpha/Intel announcement.
- Larry Cormier from the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) will give a vendor-neutral session on SANs.
- Shawn Henry of the FBI will give an overview of the National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC) and its mission and activities. He will describe current vulnerabilities sites often encountered in information infrastructures.
- Art McClinton of Mitretek Systems will describe his experiences with a project to establish a Secure Remote Access System.

Compaq OpenVMS Engineering Presents: Technical Update Days

ESILUG's good friend Sue Skonetski of Compaq OpenVMS Engineering, in cooperation with the Compaq Federal Government and Mid Atlantic Area Commercial Sales and Technical Support Teams, and the Washington DC Area Encompass ESILUG, are pleased to announce the "OpenVMS Technical Update Days 2001" event to be held on March 27-28.
Only two other OpenVMS Technical Update Days events of this type are being held worldwide later this year in Texas and in the UK.

There is NO FEE to attend this event on either or both dates.
All persons planning to attend (Compaq customers, Compaq employees, Compaq ISV & Channel Partners) are requested to please register at http://www.compaq-signup.com ASAP since seating will be limited and catered meals are being provided on both days.
For those traveling from out of town, there is a block of rooms reserved at the Inn until March 1st for the nights of Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th. Individuals who wish to stay at the conference center should call to make reservations @ 800-727-8622 and refer to the "OpenVMS Technical Tour."
Baltimore Washington International and Reagan National are the two closest airports to this event.

LINUX 101
Russell Pavlicek, CompaqThis session will discuss the value of Linux in a business environment. We will cover some of the history of the operating system, its features, and its place in the corporate world. We will deal with some of the misconceptions that surround Open Source software as well as some of the key differences between Open Source and closed source solutions. We will also discuss the community which creates Open Source software and Compaq's role in the Linux world. We will allocate plenty of time for questions and answers, so come with your issues and queries about using Linux and Open Source solutions.
Russell Pavlicek is Compaq's Linux Evangelist for Professional Services. He joined Digital Equipment Corporation in 1987 and spent years as an OpenVMS customer consultant for Digital. In 1995, he began using Linux and soon became convinced of its potential as a business solution. He is the author of the book, "Embracing Insanity: Open Source Software Development", as well as numerous magazine and webzine articles. He is a frequent speaker at Linux and Open Source conferences in North America.
